SmartID Mobile Privacy Policy
In short: SmartID Mobile identifies glass bottle finishes using your phone's camera, and it does the identifying on the phone itself. The app has no accounts, no advertising, no tracking and no location access. SmartID Mobile sends photos to Gen-In only when you choose Report a problem and press Send. The camera button also lets you save a photo and share it through an app you choose.
Who we are
SmartID Mobile is made by Gen-In LLC, Largo, Florida 33770, USA. Questions about this policy: apple@gen-in.com for SmartID Mobile on iPhone, android@gen-in.com for SmartID Mobile on Android, or +1 (727) 216 9670.
What happens on your phone
- Camera: live recognition runs on your phone without automatically saving or uploading the camera feed. If you press the camera button, the app saves a snapshot to your Photos and lets you share it using an app you choose. SmartID Mobile sends photographs to Gen-In only when you choose Report a problem and press Send.
- Settings: your choices in Setup (such as the finish standard and light or dark appearance) are saved on your phone only.
What we receive when you send a report
Only when you tap Report a problem and then Send, the app sends us:
- the photo from the camera at that moment or, if you choose to scan the bottle for a problem with what the app reads, about 30 pictures the app takes while you turn the bottle once. Scan pictures go straight to us and are not saved to your photos;
- the type of problem you chose, and any finish name or note you typed (both optional);
- what the app showed: the finish it named, how confident it was, and where it saw the bottle;
- technical details: your phone's make and model, the app version and the recognition model version;
- the date and time, and a random number that identifies the report.
The app does not ask for, or automatically attach, your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts or any identifier of your phone. A photo or note can still show or mention a person (for example a name badge in the picture, or a name typed in the note), so please avoid including people or personal information in the photo or the note.
Internet address
When a report is uploaded, our upload service counts uploads per internet (IP) address to prevent misuse. The address is kept only in this counter, not with the report, and the counter is deleted automatically within a few days. It is not used for anything else.
How we use reports
- to look into the problem you reported;
- to improve how accurately the app identifies bottles, which can include using report photos to train future versions of the recognition model.
Where reports are stored and who can see them
Reports are sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection and stored, encrypted, in Gen-In's own storage at Amazon Web Services in the United States. Amazon stores them on our behalf. Only Gen-In staff who work on the app can access them. We do not sell reports or share them with anyone else.
How long we keep reports
We keep reports for up to 5 years, or less if they are no longer useful, and then delete them.
Your choices
- Sending a report is always your choice. The app works fully without it.
- To ask us to delete a report you sent, contact us with the date and approximate time you sent it and your phone model, and we will remove it.
Children
SmartID Mobile is a work tool for the glass container industry and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
